Moose - SOLD

"Moose Man" SOLD
6" x 6" watercolor on paper

"When I am wrong, he is delighted to forgive. When I am angry, he clowns to make me smile. When I am happy, he is joy unbounded. When I am a fool, he ignores it. When I succeed, he brags. Without him, I am only another man. With him, I am all-powerful. He is loyalty itself.

He has taught me the meaning of devotion. With him, I know a secret comfort and a private peace. He has brought me understanding where before I was ignorant.

His head on my knee can heal my human hurts. His presence by my side is protection against my fears of dark and unknown things. He has promised to wait for me... whenever... wherever—in case I need him. And I expect I will—as I always have. He is just my dog."
Gene Hill

My friend Carrie Waller sent me a photo of her dog Moose when I put a call out for dog photos on my facebook page. Don't you just love his face? All love and devotion. He has very soulful eyes. He's a bull mastif I believe, and quite large, but a real sweetheart with her two small boys (sounds just like my dog :), even if he is large enough to eat the breakfast off their plates at the dining room table. ;)

This is my entry for this week's Daily Paintworks challenge, which was to paint a close up of an animal. That's kind of my thing so I just had to do it right?

See you next week everyone! Huzzah!! :)

  18. This is beyond all words! His eyes look so incredibly real - I almost mistook it for a photo! I know I have said it before, but I can never see a possible way for your paintings to get any better - but then you paint something even more gob-smackingly amazing. I don't know how you do it! Carrie must be SO happy with this! :0)

  19. I missed that call out for dog faces or I would have sent a stream of Martha ones. But this is superb. You are a master at dogs-I so love the pencil sketch I bought of the yellow lab that looks exactly like Martha. Love Gene Hill's words too. great post

  20. Ah, doggies. We have three. I often hate the mess and the hair and the inconveniences but what would life be like without them? Quite empty. I love cats too but am really allergic unfortunately. This "Moose" guy is something else! What a sweetheart! Beautifully painted, Crystal.

  24. So beautiful . . . I write this with tears in my eyes . . . that accompanying passage was really touching. I'm a hopeless, hapless dog-lover. (I read your entry about your son a couple posts ago, also with tears in my eyes, but I just didn't comment about it . . . but now that you've done it to me again, I thought I'd let you know . . . and that I don't just cry about dogs!) :)
