To Catch A Heffalump
10" x 14" watercolor
#4 in my Still Life Interruptus series
What is a Heffalump you ask?
A Heffalump is a cute and cuddly elephant type creature that is often purple, pink, or blue and lives in the 100 acre wood, where it is mistakenly believed to generally wreck all kinds of havoc. But this could not be further from the truth!
Heffalumps are shy and gentle creatures who love to laugh and eat Rumpledoodles (Heffalump cookies).
They are not to be confused with Woozles, which are very sneaky, or Wockets, that are often kept in pockets.
Although this happy beast generally gets the blame for stealing Winnie The Pooh's honey it really is not guilty of such a crime.
Because you see, Heffalumps are not all that fond of honey at all.
In fact, if one were to try and capture a Heffalump, one might want to use orange slices.
There's a rumor going around that a certain purple Heffalump has a weakness for juicy orange slices. . .
And I may or may not have been witness to such a thing. :)
Simply remarkable Crystal. Oh my gosh, I adore the painting, I adore the tale!

ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely gorgeous painting, and a lovely piece of storytelling to go with it too :)
ReplyDeleteI have always love heffalumps, and your painting and post just strengthen this feeling. You have done a magnificent job on this painting, Crystal - it's wonderful!
ReplyDelete100 Acre wood is about a 25 minute drive from where I live. It's called Ashdown Forest. The author used to play there when he was a little boy and it's this very wood which was the inspiration behind his story of Winnie the Pooh! We went there a while back and played pooh sticks on the actual bridge - It's a beautiful place :0)
ReplyDeleteI didn't see any Heffalumps though! But I wish I had! Your painting is exquisite. It's the way you use such strong light which makes it for me. It's so striking! Beautiful! :0)
Crystal, what an hilarious post! The painting is lovely too.
ReplyDeleteI haven't read Winnie the Poo, but we had fits of laughter the other week when taking the grandchildren to the zoo when someone mentioned they wanted to see the hefalants!
Another magical creation! I just love the stories you are starting to create in your paintings, really lends itself to your other life as a writer:) Just beautiful, Crystal!! I saw some Mary Cassatt paintings in Atlanta and the first thing that came to my mind is that you capture those same feelings and emotions with your works. Fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteThis Beautigul work
Good creations
Simply priceless. Love the story line too.
ReplyDeleteThat heffalump looks real! You can tell its a stuffed animal - wow, I think this is my favorite painting of yours yet. beautiful lighting and such a wonderful moment captured in paint.
ReplyDeleteYou have an amazing talent for expressing light, and that on children's skin too, not quite the easiest task.
ReplyDeleteI can almost taste the orange slices and the heffalump sure looks cute. :)
What a lovely painting! And you write so well too. You always paint children well but the Heffalump is just as good. I especially like the light penetrating its ears and making them look pink from inside.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done!
I feel honored to be peeking in on a scene so uniquely special and beautiful. Thank you for sharing your creative gifts, Crystal.
