First Touch

"First Touch"

5 x 7 watercolor

Another one of my newborn paintings. This is of my son's hand cradled in mine in his first week of life. I never get tired of looking at babies hands, they are so tiny and beautiful.

I rarely paint this small, but decided to give it a try.

My style of painting doesn't really lend itself well to 'fast' work. I work in layers and each layer needs to dry before I can add the next glaze of color, so painting small doesn't really speed things up for me all that much :) I hoped it would, but alas it does not.

Ah well, who needs fast right? ;)

   Until tomorrow friends!

  1. Very sweet. I paint with many layers, too. A hairdryer speeds things along nicely.

  2. Thank you Meera!

Thanks Michelle! Yeah, hair dryers help, but they tend to wake up sleeping babies ;)

  3. Love the baby hand. They are so awesome to look at, it's amazing how many details in such a tiny little hand. Oh, and as far as the hair dryer, you're right about waking babies, or in my house the noise seems to become the source of entertainment. Everyone wants me to blow dry them and they try to take off with it, never ending battle, so I sent and watch paint dry:)

  10. What a lovely and symbolic painting. There is nothing like the feeling you get when your newborn clutches your finger is there? And their hands are so soft, you almost can't feel them at all :0)

  11. Crystal, your work never fails to give me goosebumps. I'm probably repeating myself and should really use the thesaurus so at least I'll sound different, but I'm just overwhelmed by your ability and touch. So ethereal, so so beautiful.

Thank you so much for your comment, you are so kind.

    Enjoy the weekend!
