Love Letters For Mom
6" x 6" watercolor
This month's Cook-Waller Challenge theme was 'Love Letters', as picked by Carrie.
Some of the best love letters I've ever received have been given to me by my children. I keep every single one of them, some are stuck in the pages of scrapbooks, others are tucked away in boxes, and some of them I keep out where I can see them at all times. So that I can read them any time I need to remember that for all that I may do wrong as a mother the one thing I do right is love my children with all my heart, and they know that.
And here's Carrie's painting:
Love Letters by Carrie Waller
12" x 12" watercolor
Carrie paints still life's like nobody's business, and I really love the story that is told here. These are love letters that her husband (who is stationed in Afghanistan right now) has written to their two small sons. A truly meaningful and beautiful painting. :)
See you later friends. :)
Hi,Crystal,
ReplyDeleteAlways your post and work is full of love, which touches my heart. Keep up and bring us more love!
Cheers,Sadami
The power in these pieces are the brilliant skills of two artist who know how to capture a moment and convey a story that touches us all. I love how the light radiates from the child's hand as she writes her letter for Mom. Beautiful work
ReplyDeleteVery powerful and audacious work Crystal. You are breaking new boundaries. And both your and Carrie's paintings about love letters have so much love in them. Words are not enough..
ReplyDeleteCrystal, you are a GREAT MOM!!! I wish you and the boys a Happy Valentine's Day!
ReplyDeleteAh... The sweet motherhood! I love both of your interpretations. I am still working on mine and will send you the link once I'm finished -- hopefully before the end of the month! I love the clean, bright color of your painting-- very simple but so effective! Hands show so much personality of their owners...
ReplyDeleteYour painting reminds me of my childhood and when we used to make those construction paper hearts and valentines in school! How sweet of you to keep those mementos from your children handy - love it!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!
Crystal, you have captured such a sweet memory of childhood in this painting. I remember myself and my children and grandchildren all doing this very thing at some point in time. I really do love this painting.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and your wonderful family a day full of love and happiness and many more beautiful moments for you to paint. Happy Valentine's Day.
This is SO beautifully painted, Cystal. Children put so much love in their artwork..and I visualize your kids doing the same for you! I have so many of the artworks that my kids gave to me ...I still get emotional when I read them occasionally!! Now, I'm saving my grand kids work!! Yikkes!!! Happy Valentine's Day!!!
ReplyDeleteSweetly and beautifully painted. Love the light coming across. What could be better! You can flat out paint!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it, Crystal.....so sweet. I bet you had a great Valentine's Day.....huzzah!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful paintings, both of them. I thought yours was a photo when I saw it in thumbnail version (which is a compliment by the way). I'll check out Carrie's blog too.
ReplyDeleteLovely painting, Crystal, so full of meaning. Delightful xx
ReplyDeleteYour painting just GLOWS with love! I love those warm colours you have used. You are such a master at painting light - It really is quite remarkable!
ReplyDeleteI also love how you and Carrie think outside the box when it comes to your challenges. There is no love like the one we have for our children is there :0D
I'm in awe of your art, I have become a follower , I will enjoy coming back to keep up on your beautiful work,
ReplyDeleteI so agree with you ... there is no love like a mother's love. I so cherish my daughter and know that I am so blessed to have her. I miss my mom even after so many years ... my heart still hurts each and every day since she passed.
ReplyDeleteHappiness to all.
such a sweet painting and post-I, too, have kept all notes from my children and still get them ...now they are more likely to be emails.
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely painting, Crystal. The light on those little fingers is just beautiful. There is a wonderful simplicity in the paper and hearts, and everything directs the viewer to those little hands. Love this!
ReplyDeleteI love this Crystal! (And can totally relate, having spent last weekend cutting out paper hearts with my youngest two.) Love the light and the feeling here. Wonderful work.
