'The House With The Red Door' - sold
8" x 10" watercolor
private commission
Don't you just love that red door? I do too. :) This is another commission. This one is of the home a Dad and his daughter lived in for 25 years. She contacted me and asked if I'd be able to paint a portrait of this house so she could give it to her Dad as a gift.
I don't do a lot of buildings. Actually I think this is probably only the second house I've ever painted. It was a good change of pace. But what I really liked painting were the trees. I've been wanting to paint plein aire for a long time, and now I want to give it a try even more. I have these grand plans of getting up early one Saturday morning and heading out. . . Haven't done it yet, but I will! One day. :)
Huzzah!
The red door really complements the other colors, nice work.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Karen :)
ReplyDeleteYeap! I love the red door and, as Karen very well said, it does complements the other colors. Plus I liked very much the colors of the trees. As for the 'waking early on Saturday' plan I have one too, but, ahem, hasn't happened yet :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work Crystal!
Those trees are so lush, and of course the light peeking through. You are the master of 'light!' Really special piece to hold memories with.
ReplyDeleteI love the contrast between the trees and the building - you should definitely do more houses!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea how I would do buildings, but you do, very nice red door. =)
ReplyDeleteWoo Hoo ... 'buildings' today...tomorrow the world!! How unusual for you, Crystal ... it really works though. The rich colours and then ... the red door! Her Dad's gonna love it!
ReplyDeletebeautiful trees and that splash of red is great, I keep meaning to try the plein air painting - take my sketchpad up in the hill with me - but not done it yet!!! It keeps raining that's my excuse!
ReplyDeleteThis house is beautifully painted, Crystal...is there anything you can't paint? love this!. I love the trees...to me, trees are difficult to paint..
ReplyDeleteI noticed the trees right off! They look like you were having a good time. The buyer must have been very thrilled with your beautiful work.
ReplyDeleteYou are right, the red door is terrific! For someone that doesn't paint a lot of houses this is really good.
ReplyDeleteGreat job on everything, Crystal!! Get out an paint plein air—you will love it! There is nothing like all of the colors you see that the camera doesn't .
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful and I also love the trees! They must have been thrilled with it!
ReplyDeleteOur front door is red too. There is something inviting about a red front door isn't there? :0)
What a lovely gift. You've painted the building well and there is a lovely serene feel to the scene. xx
ReplyDeleteI love this. This style of architecture reminds me a lot of Northern Virginia. There are lots of hills and many split-level homes. Love the light in your trees.
ReplyDeleteThat red door is just the perfect focal point for this painting! Lucky you to do such a fun commission.
ReplyDeleteDon't you just love it when everything comes together so well for a painting like this one clearly did?
Happy 4th to you and your family!
I love the light through the trees! Adds such nice sparkle ; )
