Grace

'Grace'
6.5" x 6" watercolor on paper
$100 plus $7 US shipping or $15 Int.

I can't decide if it's the wavy curls on the side of her face (that reminds me of old world beauty), or her slightly shy smile, or just the warmth and acceptance in her eyes. But there's something about this woman that makes me think she would be a great friend to have on your side.

With some paintings I find it much easier to express the feeling I'm after than others. I have no idea why this is. I really wanted to focus on this woman's eyes, and the feeling of grace and peace she seemed to give. I don't know, there is something kind of unexplainable with her that really struck me. Something I couldn't seem to put into words, so I tried (all week long while agonizing working on this one painting) to put it into paint and let you guys decide what it is you feel instead of me spelling it out for you.

Hopefully that worked. :)

But if not, onward to the next!

  4. She has the most beautiful eyes and those amazing pouty lips (I want some of those)! Just stunning! She has such a shy and tender expression. Just gorgeous!! It doesn't look like you agonised over it at all. It looks like your magic brush has been at work again :0))

  5. I agree with Sandra that this does not look agonized over in the least, in fact there is a relaxing, calming quality to this portrait which is very lovely.

  6. Her eyes were the first thing that drew me, something so gentle and deep there.

  7. It's her eyes-always the eyes- and their depth. They welcome you, as open doors, but you have to travel a long way. This can cause an unexplained awkwardness sometimes.
The portrait is magnificent Crystal and you worked it with sensitivity.
    Warm regards.

  8. Great painting Crystal. There's a duality not only in the eye color but also in what they seem to express. In the blue eye I see acceptance almost to the point of resignation. In the hazel eye I see more optimism, a desire to challenge and defy. Wonderful how you've captured her complexity.

  10. You have created an amazing portrait, Crystal. I love how you have painted her face to give the impression of such softness. And her eyes ... Wow! I agree with Konstantina. The blue eye is submissive. The hazel eye definitely says "Don't mess with me!" Such strength!

  11. Hello Crystal:) I go for the eyes too! Not for the lips. They are beautiful too, don't understand me wrong. Give me 100 portraits and I can tell by the lips witch portraits are made by you! The eyes are a different story. Love the portrait!!

  16. This is a subtle expression with a lot behind it. There's this wry little smile but warmth in her eyes. She has humor and intelligence, maybe even wisdom beyond her years. Probably a practical joker but not a cynic. This is someone I'd like to know - Love it Crystal!
