Acceptance SOLD

Acceptance
6" x 6" watercolor
$100 plus $6 US shipping $15 international

What initially caught my attention with this woman was the beautiful patterns of light and shadows created by that knock-your-socks-off sunlight filtering through her gauzy head covering (for lack of a better word ;).

And those alternating warm and cool colors of her skin tones were unbelievable. I'm a sucker for any excuse to charge some blue into cool skin tones.

Then, when I saw her eyes I was captivated by her peaceful gaze. She has a look of complete acceptance on her face that I have seen on very few people. Like she would never judge anyone harshly, no matter who they were or even what they did. Her expression is full of peace, love, and understanding. It reminds me of my mom, and home, and just looking at this woman makes me feel safe.

Until Thursday my friends. Huzzah!!! :D

P.S. My back is feeling much better, thank you so much to all of you for the well wishes and good thoughts you sent my way!

  1. Yay! I'm the first! (Finally... :-P)

I love the bold, colorful shadow patterns on her face, especially how you pushed the cast shadow to be that saturated blue as reflections of her hood. It reminds me of Mary Whyte, and Karen Frey, two masters of painting faces with emphasized shadow patterns that makes my jaw drop... And I love her eyes, they are so captivating. You always do the most amazing eyes...

Good to hear that you are feeling better -- don't work yourself too hard! Even with all the things you have to do... (Again, don't know how you manage to pull time together to paint. You have my eternal admiration. But do get some rest sometimes!)

  11. Wow! The expression on her face is lovely. Everything is so peaceful about this piece. I love how the eyebrow disappears into the light. This is amazing indeed. Its nice to know that your back is recovering. So are you now spending more time painting since you are not going to the gym? :)
Best wishes and get well soon,

  12. Goodness gracious Crystal...this is a stunning painting. That expression is moving. I visited Steve's photostream (and followed) because I love traveling anything...photos, art...all of it. I could not find the photo though.

    Your talent is huge.

  15. Lovely painting of a lovely lady, and you were very perceptive concerning the look of "acceptance" on her face! I too am captivated by the way light filters through gauzy cloth or straw hats on the human face so totally understand your need to get this down on paper!
Read about Suzanne's husband dying last week only this morning and gives me a renewed appreciation for what I have here now, here today! Sent her a big cyber space hug but it is not nearly enough, however, it is good that we can be there for each other even if only through text and pixels.

I know I say the same thing over and over but you really are a genius at capturing expressions and light. Just beautiful!
