I love to draw. But really I can't think of an artist that I know who doesn't love to draw. And if you're an artist who doesn't love to draw, you need to learn to love it. Make drawing your favorite. :)
Technically this drawing isn't a sketchbook study, it's much more. . . fine tuned, I guess you could say, than most of the drawings in my sketchbook. But it is one that I started while waiting in the car to pick my kids up from school. I do a lot of drawing in my car, I hate waiting and being bored. :)
When I first saw this woman I thought she seemed a little haughty. But
the more I studied her face as I was drawing her the more I thought of her as just plain confident instead of prideful. She had a good mix of the two I suppose. And there is a certain curiosity in her expression that I really, really like. Don't you think?
P.S. I'm hopefully going to be posting more drawings and sketches every Saturday. . . As long as I get to it before my children wake up and demand breakfast and park trips! Loveable little minions. :)
I love how the hair gives contrast and frames the face, lovely
gros bisous
This is an awesome face -- I love how you depicted the confidence with the shape of her lips beside with her eyes. I just recently started to draw and paint portraits and boy was that hard! I get my daily inspirations by flipping through your drawings and paintings of vividly captured personalities... ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh Crystal. This is lovely. To me she seems strong. And that those eyes have seen a lot in life. I feel like Roger - that hair frames her beautifully. You've given me a reminder. Must pick up my pencil again. Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeletewow, amazing work as always. I totally get--loving to draw. It amuse myself on my ipad sometimes with a drawing programs for hours at a time and then I just delete. It is so relaxing. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt's really good! I like how you crop the faces like that and make the person's expression so lifelike!
ReplyDeleteHi Crystal, your sketching is so beautiful. I bet if that girl was to see it she would be amazed.
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteShe has a strong and very beautiful face, and, to me, it looks like she is contemplating vice or virtue. :) And I couldn't agree with you more - an artist really must be able to draw well.
ReplyDeleteCRYSTAL....WOW!!!! She's beautiful..I love the cropped version..so much emotion in her face. Congratulations on this amazing portrait.
ReplyDeleteI say Amen to all the above comments, but that single strand of hair on her face just caught my eye. Of course her eyes and lips are wonderfully expressive.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, Crystal. More than a sketch , she's so refined. You have a great talent. xx
ReplyDeleteThe wisps of hair ... the eyelashes! Whilst you have the knack of bringing faces to life- it's the those almost unseen details that set it apart as being, brilliant.
ReplyDeleteWe can run to 26 Huzzas on this, me thinks!
Gorgeous drawing-and will look forward to Saturday drawings!
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful sketch and much more!! Yes I agree, sketching should be a regular part of an artists life.
ReplyDeleteWell I think this is just too beautiful - because now my own portraits seem completely dwarfed! Wow, I still have so much to learn. This is truly beautiful and I will be so glad to see more :0)
ReplyDeleteYou are so right about drawing (wish I could draw like this) also your paintings are so amazing too - no doubt influenced by all those skethes you do.
ReplyDeleteSuperb drawing Crystal! She's lovely.
ReplyDeleteHappy Drawing!
Love the crop and beautiful expression :)
ReplyDeleteI love your drawing! I like to draw, but find it much more difficult to complete a beautiful drawing than a painting. Awesome!
