'Ginger'
6" x 6" oil on masonite panel
This is the last of my oil paintings for now. I've enjoyed painting with oils this last week, but I'm very ready to head back to my watercolors. It's like being on vacation for a long time. It's fun, but eating out every day and sleeping in hotel rooms gets old pretty fast. You start to miss home. :)
Watercolors are my home. Vacation's over and I'm feeling a little homesick. I think a portrait in watercolor is in order straight away! ;)
Reference photo by Reine Haru on deviantart, thank you!
I know what you mean. But you are great at every medium you've worked in so I guess some vacation days are due:) Lovely work, I'm sure you've learned a ton about oils on your journey.
ReplyDeleteI understand for sure, Crystal! I really enjoy painting with oils but as soon as I finish the painting, I REALLY need my pastels...I leave watercolors for you! Too difficult. Ginger is SO beautiful...love the gleam in her eyes when she looks up..wonderful skin tones and color.! Another perfect painting.
ReplyDeleteYour post made me smile -- I know what you mean. I think your oils look fantastic. I agree with Carrie -- you're great at every medium you've worked in. Looking forward to your next watercolor. :)
ReplyDeleteBoth medias are magical in your hands, Crystal, but I think the true LOVE of watercolor comes through in your amazing work. It is such a subtle difference, but I think I can feel it more than see it.
ReplyDeleteRegarding Ginger - I want lips like that!!!!
I love your portrait style. You apply color so confidently and in just the right places. Well done!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is fabulous! I LOVE that vibrant hair colour and those delicious brush strokes! This woman looks deep in thought - I wonder what about...
ReplyDeleteI'm taking a break from oils too. Pencil portraits again - another baby. Love them! But can't leave the bears for too long!
Really striking! I agree with the others - excellent. I think it's good to experiment with different things because it will all inform our next work. But having just said that, I don't know how your watercolours could get any richer! lol Do you think you've picked up anything from this week? Love your attitude and your skills : )
ReplyDeleteI have heard that it is good to try other mediums and I think you have done well, much better than I would. Painting wet on wet is tricky. Lovely portrait as usual.
ReplyDeleteWow is right! I love how easily you handle the oils when watercolor is your thing. Very impressive. For portraits I do favor oils. Watercolors don't have the depth, the richness, the seriousness, in my humble opinion--plus you need matting and backing and glass--they're more troublesome to frame. Framing aside, you're great with both.
ReplyDeleteWell I'm impressed, no matter the medium.
ReplyDeleteI've just been drawing with coloured ink in my pen ... not sure that counts though!
