Making some progress

work in progress

watercolor 10 x 14

Making some progress here with this pretty pink flower. It's so fun to use such bright colors and go a little crazy with them :) I need to unify it more, soften some edges, and add details and darks, but I think it's coming along pretty well. I'm still debating on how I want to paint the background. I think I want to include some of the foliage, we'll see. Isn't it funny how you can plan and plan for a painting and it still takes on a life of its own? That's something I love about painting, its full of surprises.

Now, on to the question of the week. This is just going to be a fun one, no stress here okay? Let's play Desert Island. If you were stuck on a desert island (that by some break in the rules of logic had a DVD player) what five movies would you want to have with you? Keep in mind that these are the movies you will be watching for the rest. of. your. life. So make them count :)

Mine are:

  1. The Two Towers from The Lord of The Rings Trilogy (I love a good fight between good and evil, and that Aragorn is such an awesome hero)

  2. Pride and Prejudice, the one with Keira Knightley and Matthew McFayden, because really it's the best love story EVER. :)

  3. Ocean's 12, because Matt Damon is hilarious and dead pan, and I just love it.

  4. The Count of Monte Cristo, sword fighting, chivalry, pure awesomeness!

  5. Notting Hill, I am so seriously sentimental with this one. It always reminds me of my husband :) And I love Spike.
Okay, your turn :)

    Wow! 5 movies
    (1) Definately Two Towers.
(2)Star Wars--really I would take any of them. I need some good scifi.
(3)Love, Actually--I just love this movie
    (4)Twilight--need me some eye candy
    (5)Interview with a Vampire--plan awesome.

i would try to fit a sixth one in there. Maybe stuff in my shirt--If I could-- The Sixth Sense--M. Night had me guessing till the very end of this and I still love it.

Love Ocean 11 and 12 maybe I would try and fit it in my pants.

Yes, I know I'm trying to be sneaking but I love movies as much as I love books.

    :)

  3. Hey Crystal,

Your painting is turning out great. I love the intense color. I was just introduced to the best pink color, it's Daniel Smith's Opera. It is simply a divine color. I can't wait to see the final product, and I agree that foliage in the back would be good. That flower will really pop.

    My fav five movies
    1) When Harry Met Sally--My all time favorite.

    2) Something's Gotta Give

    3) Pillow Talk--I love Doris Day--and this is just a fun movie

    4) Julie and Julia

    5) It's Complicated

And I am so hopeful for Eat,Pray, Love, coming out in August. That is one of my favorite books.

This was a fun post. Now I'm in the mood to watch my favorite movies and paint:) Hope you have a terrific 4th.

  6. Hi Crystal, The painting is coming along nicely. Beautiful, bright colors. Backgrounds are usually what I find to be the most difficult part of a painting. I'll be interested to see what you come up with for this background. I'm sure it will be nice.

Hmmmm, what 5 movies? I don't know that I could choose only 5. If I did, my choices would be different the next day. I think I might slip Avatar in. I loved the beauty of it.

  7. Ooh, lovely delicate flower! Beautiful!

    Hmm... Let me see...

    1. Bridget Jones (both if poss?)
    2. Sex and the City
    3. Harry Potter (1 & 2 if poss)
    4. Grease - I could bop around to that forever!
    5. Nine to Five (with Dolly Parton)

There are so many more but these are the first that spring to mind!

  8. Your flower is blooming beautifully, Crystal. Is it a peony, by any chance? We could play guess the flower if you'd like. I love a good guessing game.
As for the five movies they are straight from my profile list -
    1) Life or Something Like It starring Angeling Jolie. (You must see this, Crystal.) She plays a newsreporter who gets told she's going to die and what happens because of that prediction. The scene with her singing "Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones, acapella makes me cry.
    2) Lost in Translation starring Bill Murray and Scarlet Johansen. My second all-time replay after the Jolie movie. They are both on business in Japan and have a platonic relationship. A few racey parts but if you ignore them the film is great.
    3) Shadow of the Vampire starring John Malkovich. Love anything Malakovich but this one is hilarious. He's a 1900's movie director who hires a real vampire to be the star of his film and no one knows the vampire is real.
    4) A year in Provence starring Peter Maille about his first year in Provence, France owning a vineyard with this wife and the wonderfully funny things that happen to them as newcomers in this very odd village.
    5) Amelie, starring ??, I can't remember who she is right now and the video is in the bottom of my storage chest. She's an odd young lady who gets back at those who bother her by playing practical jokes on them, like sneaking into her landlord's apt. and replacing his shoes with another pair one size smaller. Harmless stuff but she gets her revenge sweetly.
There that's five but I have many more.
    Have a wonderful evening.

  12. I love your painting and I lover your posts! So beautifully done, I'm so looking forward to seeing it finished. And I love your questions.

    1. Pride and Prejudiced. The same one you love. I can watch that movie over and over and over and over. It's perfect.

    2. Sense and Sensibility. For the same reasons as number one.

    3. Fight Club. Perfect flick and just the perfect balance for the two chick flicks above. I long to converse in such clever dialog.

4.Pulp Fiction. I abhor violence in film and life, but somehow Jules and Vincent make it ok.

5.The entire Cohn Bros. collection. Or if that's cheating I'm still trying to decide between Raising Arizona and Fargo.

Great questions, enjoy your weekend and thank you!

  13. I'll have to agree with you on Pride and Prejudice, and with Christine on Princess Bride. Then I'll add Waking Ned Divine, Narnia, and Nacho Libre. How's that for a good mix?

  14. Wow, what clean, beautiful watercolors Crystal, I worked in this medium for 15 years so I appreciate how difficult it is to accomplish this, fabulous work!

    1. Sound of Music
    2. About a Boy
    3. Before Sunset
    4. 12 Angry Men
    5. Hmm.. I STILL have to think on it!
