colored pencil portrait, work in progress
I've been working on this portrait on and off for the last little while. I haven't made all that much progress with it, and this is still pretty rough. I'm just blocking in the basic placement of features, and starting to lay in some color. It still has a long way to go.
But it's fun. There's something kind of therapeutic about working slowly with my pencils. Although I do tend to get discouraged when it takes me an hour to lay in the basic skin tones, which would have taken me minutes with my watercolor. Have I mentioned that I'm impatient? ;)
I'm also going to count this as a sketchbook post for the week. Why? Ahem. . . because I used pencils. I know, I know not quite the same, but it'll have to do.
Have a great weekend everyone! And thanks to all of you for taking the time to stop by, I appreciate it so much. Every comment makes me smile a little more, you guys are great!
Beautiful!!!!! I love it
ReplyDeleteCrystal this marvelous, you have such a light and delicate touch. The work seems to be appearing out of the paper like a ghost.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful start, Crystal. Can't wait to see the finished piece.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful face! Can't wait to see the whole thing! Don't forget to stop by my blog today....I think you'll be happy you did!
ReplyDeleteI think thats finished for me. It looks like life being created on paper at this stage and its wonderful. For me this is finished and it cant get better.
ReplyDeleteCan you challenge yourself and leave it at this point and call it finished :) ?
I agree with Prabal, it could be finished now. In fact it is almost abstract. It's extremely powerful the way it is now. There is such a strong since of innocence and hopefulness. Crystal, God works through your hands:)
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is WOW!
ReplyDeleteAmazing! It's so good. Prabal is right, it could be finished as it is.

ReplyDeleteI have told you lately that your amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI was just saying today that I wish that it didn't take so long to do color pencil, because I would like to get more art pieces done. But as I was reminded that is why they come out so photogenic. The end result is worth it.
ReplyDeleteSo very stunning!!
ReplyDeleteYes , you could leave it as it is, and it would still be beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI face the same dilemma while working with pencils...especially when someone says,'Why spend so much time and energy on something which a camera in an instant!'?...its tough going abstract in pencils- you tend to go in details!
I think your recent work is very beaautiful ... this one is stunning ... I love all your work
ReplyDeleteWhat's not been said about this beautiful painting that has been said already? This is beautiful beyond words! I also love it as it is.... but as an impatient painter myself.. I would no doubt step in and over do it!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'm very late for this comment...
ReplyDeleteThis is very adorable even it has not been completed yet!You pencilled it very nice; if you didn't tell, I wouldn't know:)
Pretty rough??? Did you really say pretty rough??? This is absolutely exquisite! I mean, even the mouth looks moist - and as for those eyes... even if you left it here it is so incredibly far from rough! I love it already!
ReplyDeleteThat's beautiful! I can't believe how you've managed to get such delicate tones in pencil.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the finished picture but as others have said before this already looks fantastic enough to be called finished
