'Dad's Love'
6" x 9" watercolor - Sold
This painting was a commission for a special Father's Day gift. I love that sweet, sleeping baby, her whispy hair, and that tiny furrow in her brow that makes me wonder what thoughts her little infant head might be thinking while she dreams. But most of all I love that adoring look in Dad's eyes that says there is nothing more precious in his world than this little girl.
Being the mother of all boys myself, and watching a LOT of wrestling matches, lightsaber fights, and other such boy-ness going on between my husband and sons I've often wondered what it must be like for a father and a daughter. Does he feel more protective of her than his sons? Does he worry more about her the closer she gets to that dating age?
And the hormones, the crying, and the mood swings. Does it make him shake his head and ask himself, what is up with that??
Maybe one day I'll find out when my own son's grow up and have a daughter of their own.
That will be one spoiled little girl if this future Grandma (can't believe I just called myself that, I'm 31 people. . . 31!!) has anything to say about it.
:)
Until Thursday! Huzzah!!
Oh, this is a treasure. So intimate. It almost feels vintage. I love your decision on that! And you really caught the gaze of the father. Such communication between the two <3
ReplyDeleteDear Crystal,
ReplyDeleteVery touchy work. Always your figure's eyes impress me most. Thank you for sharing the wonderful work!
Kind regards, Sadami
Crystal I love this piece. You've captured a beautiful moment and I'm sure this painting will be treasured.
ReplyDeleteI love this on so many levels.
ReplyDeleteYou really captured a warm feeling here, lovely.
ReplyDeleteOH CRYSTAL..! This is so beautiful...you definitely captured the love he has for his little girl!! He will love this and treasure it forever!!!
ReplyDeleteHaving had, 3 sons, one daughter and four granddaughters! Everything you say is exactly right, and you've captured the father - daughter link exactly, in your wonderful picture.
ReplyDeleteWhat amazed me was how close you can get to grandchildren ...really a friendship+ that words can't express.
You've created a family heirloom there, Crystal.
Gorgeous Crystal, love the simplicity, so much emotion here. As the mom of one boy, one girl. Boys are easier :)
ReplyDeleteFabulous one, Crystal......I hope your day is special!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful work Crystal. My third boy wore pink--ended up playing both offense and defense football! My magic didn't work, but good news, bad news who can tell. Girls are scary these days.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm exactly 10 years ahead of you!! Adele has just moved in with her boyfriend and Charlie is 16 this year! I'm still not quite ready for Grandchildren just yet, lol! I do think that girls are more of a worry. They seem to want their independence so much earlier than boys!
ReplyDeleteThis painting is just beautiful. I love the expressions too and the fact that you have painted it in monotone has worked beautifully! What can I ever do when I see your portraits other than sigh... I want to paint like that :0)
Love that its a 'black and white' watercolor piece ! Tenderness is well captured :) --this is something to treasure.
ReplyDeleteHaving two boys myself, I often wonder the same. The hubby keeps pushing for a girl but I don't know if I'm willing to take that leap yet...or ever for that matter. What a beautiful painting, Crystal. It's stunning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful portrait, Crystal. Babies are not the easiest subjects, and this adorable girl is so perfect!
ReplyDeleteYou're already thinking about "grandmother-hood"?????
